Adding a cow to the plot.

I’m a quarter of the way through writing the second book of my new WW2 series set in Norfolk, and have it planned out, scene by scene, and have just decided to add a cow to the plot! One of my main characters, Thea, owns Rookery House which has enough land to keep a house cow, and with rationing in full force, the milk would come in handy and they could make butter and cheese.

I doubt very much if I’d have thought of this if I hadn’t grown up on a small holding where we kept cows for their milk. I never dreamed that I’d be using that experience one day in a book. Nothing in life is wasted if you’re a writer!

The first book of the new series, “A Mother’s Heart” is out next May – without a cow in it! You read the blurb about it here
