Bessie Rushbrook has a secret.
A haunting secret, which she’s carried with her since the days of the First World War.
Norfolk, July,1944 – with the world at war again for the second time in a generation, warm-hearted Bessie takes in Marigold, an evacuee girl, giving her a safe home away from the dangers in London. Marigold’s arrival starts a chain of events which force Bessie to face the truth, and reveal her secret to those she loves. Will they accept what she did, or will it tear the family she holds so dear apart?
“Secrets and Promises” written under the name, Kate Jackson, was the story that caught the interest of my agent, Felicity Trew, at the Romantic Novelists’ Association conference in 2015. It lead to me being signed up with Felicity and writing the ‘East End Angels’ series for Little Brown, Sphere.
It was first published as a two part People’s Friend Pocket novel under the title “Always in my Heart” and also as a large print book. I epublished it on Amazon under its original title ‘Secrets and Promises’ and to my amazement and delight it reached #3 in the kindle historical romance charts and has received some lovely reviews!
5* – “A lovely story. Heartwarming characters that you grow to love. I read it in two evenings as I couldn’t put it down.”
5* – “I really loved this book. I felt I knew Bessie and Harry. Cried buckets. Evocative of life in both World Wars.”
